The aluminum lock-up torque converter increases starting efficiency. It also increases operating efficiency, because it provides the right speed and torque combination for different applications, with the added bonus of reduced fuel consumption.

Six forward speeds and one reverse speed allow engines to deliver horsepower of up to 550 (410kW) and torque up to 1,770 lb-ft (2400Nxm). So whether the CT660 is climbing a jobsite hill or travelling the highway, the CX31 selects the right gear for peak performance
PTO alternatives for the Cat CX31 Automatic Transmission include two side locations, and a high output rear PTO. The optional rear PTO offers improved packaging and serviceability, and full time live power under all operating conditions for enhanced performance.
The external transmission filter means simpler and quicker maintenance.
The CX31's Electronic Control Module (ECM) regulates gear shifts based on the driver's throttle demand and the vehicle's speed. Mounting the ECM directly on the transmission reduces the amount of wiring required and increases durability.
The CX31's adaptive shift control logic uses information from the driver's operating style to balance fuel economy and performance. The shift control logic also makes the CT660 easier for the driver to operate, which results in improved productivity and machine safety.
